Hotel Tiepolo enjoys a privileged location among the hotels in Venice: just a few steps from Saint Mark's Square, in the heart of Venice near the vaporetto stop of San Zaccaria.
The hotel is located in a completely restored 15th century palace that maintains the original characteristics of the Venetian architecture, including a magnificent three-mullioned window in one room, and an exposed stone vault in the entrance hall.
Hotel Tiepolo is at the center of the most authentic and vivacious Venice, where a continuous bustle of Venetians and tourists among the tiny stores, bacari (the typical taverns), pastry shops, and boutiques livens the narrow streets and tiny squares with their numerous picturesque views. Equally numerous are the artistic and cultural sites that characterize the surroundings of Hotel Tiepolo. First and foremost the splendid Saint Mark's Square, two minutes walking distance from the hotel: the square opens wondrously like a great drawing room crowned by Saint Mark'sBasilica, radiant with mosaics and the unmistakable cupolas. Next, the arcades of the Procuratie Vecchie and Nuove, home to jewelers, decorative glassmakers, boutiques, famous historic cafés, and the Correr Museum with its superb Picture Gallery and a captivating collection dedicated to the Venetian civilization. The Doge's Palace (the ancient residence of the Doge) is enchanting and a must-see to get a sense of the greatness of the Venice of the Doges and to admire the vast halls hung with teleri (huge paintings on canvas), works of the greatest Venetian painters.
We advise taking the breathtaking panoramic walk along the Riva degli Schiavoni (5 minutes from the hotel) that begins in front of the Doge's Palace. From there one's gaze embraces the expanse of water (the Bacino) in front of Saint Mark's Square with the Customs house, the Giudecca and San Giorgio islands, and comes to rest at last on the Lido, the long island of the beaches of Venice. From the Riva, following Sotoportego San Zaccaria, you will arrive at the delightful Church of St. Zechariah, one of Venice's most beautiful examples of Renaissance architecture; inside, the enchanting "Sacred Conversation" by Giovanni Bellini stands out among other noteworthy paintings.
Don't forget the Bridge of Sighs, Saint Mark's Campanile and, for theater lovers, La Fenice.
For shopping lovers, only 10-minutes' walk from Hotel Tiepolo brings you to Rialto, the commercial heart of Venice, and the famous Rialto Bridge lined with stores, the market, and the fishmonger's shop. Countless along the Mercerie, the tiny streets that have always housed commerce of every type, are the stores of Venetian handicrafts (glass, textiles, papers, and lace) and Italian and international designer boutiques (Cartier, Gucci, Prada, Cavalli, etc.).
